Smart cities rely on sensors and IoT devices to collect and analyze data. In years to come, these data will form a larger set of data that will be used to develop city operations, manage resources and increase the quality of life of the residents in the country. The beauty of these data is that they make what seems impossible today, possible tomorrow. They have a special trait of constant growth and are happening everywhere throughout the globe.

Data alone does not make things smarter. It’s the end-to-end process of AI collection, managing, and analyzing the data which is the core to building a modernized city.

Big data plays an important role and so is having an open platform. Transparency and accessibility to data sets are critical in making services successful. Moreover, leveraging the same dataset for different functionalities can provide economies of scale, promoting innovation and other aspects for the citizens. Therefore, in order to build a successful smart city, a large amount of time and archived-real time data is necessary.
